Get help preparing for an eviction trial in Los Angeles County. This workshop is intended for people who have a date scheduled for an eviction trial in Los Angeles County but have questions about how to negotiate a settlement before trial.

This workshop will teach participants to prepare for an eviction trial and pre-trial settlement and negotiation process, including:

• What happens after a tenant files an Answer to an Unlawful Detainer Complaint?
• What is a settlement and how to prepare for one before trial
• Things to consider when coming to a settlement agreement
• To Do’s before trial
• What to expect at trial
• How to present the evidence in court
• Other civil procedural topics

Bring the following to the workshop:

• Case number
• Date set for trial or Mandatory Settlement Conference (MSC)
• All related documents, forms and court papers

Walk-ins will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis.

Check-in begins at 2:45 p.m.

Join the LA Law Library book discussion group via Zoom as we begin our year-long exploration of workers’ rights and labor movement issues.  A History of America in Ten Strikes is the perfect introduction to the topic.  Labor historian Erik Loomis recounts ten critical workers’ strikes in American labor history with a discussion of the specifics of each strike followed by a section of context about the broader issues in American society undergirding the unrest that led to the strike.  The book is one-part introduction to labor history and one-part introduction to the history of America as made and experienced by the working class.  All are welcome to join the discussion!

• Legal tools to help if the disabled person understands they need and want assistance in managing their self-care

• Explaining the court process to be appointed as a conservator
• What to expect before the hearing on appointment of a conservator
