In this class, learn best practices for getting out of debt, how to handle the different types of debt, and your rights when facing repossessions, foreclosures and lawsuits. Join a live question and answer session with an experienced probate (inheritance) and wills & trusts (estate planning) attorney. Subjects covered will include how to ensure that your money and property pass to your heirs the way you want and with as little trouble and expense as possible (wills and trusts, or estate planning), and the legal process of distributing a person’s cash, property, and other assets after they die (probate and inheritance). Attend and ask questions about how to plan ahead for yourself or a family member, or figure out what to do after a loved one’s death.  

Although you can listen to the class from various kinds of devices, you will need video to view the speaker(s) and any presentation materials, and will need to connect through a Zoom account to be able to participate in the written Q&A or chat features.

Have you been served with eviction paperwork (a Summons and a Complaint-Unlawful Detainer)? You may only have five days to respond! At this clinic, attendees seeking assistance with answering an unlawful detainer (eviction) complaint will be guided through the Tenant Power Toolkit (www.tenantpowertoolkit.org) to complete the necessary court forms.

Participants must bring their Summons and Complaint-Unlawful Detainer to the workshop. 

This workshop covers:

• How to use the Tenant Power Toolkit
• How to identify defenses against the eviction and complete responsive pleadings
• How to request a fee waiver
• How to use the Tenant Power Toolkit to find legal support

The Eviction Answer Tool will work for tenants who live anywhere in California who have been served a Summons and Complaint-Unlawful Detainer. Tenants in LA County (if they qualify for a fee waiver and are within their filing deadline) will get the option to have their documents be filed electronically with the court. All other tenants will have to file the documents the Toolkit creates in person, at the courthouse listed on your Summons and Complaint.

This unique, Zoom workshop will walk you through all the court forms necessary for an adult to petition the Los Angeles Superior Court for a name change. This workshop is intended for motivated adults who would like to change their names and are willing to fill out the paperwork themselves without legal representation. This workshop is open to Los Angeles County residents who are 18 years or older.

Workshop includes:

• The court forms needed to file for an adult name change
• How to accurately complete the forms
• How to ask the court to waive court fees based on your low income
• Where to file your completed court forms
• How to publish a name change in a local newspaper
• How to prepare for your court hearing

 What to bring:

• Social Security Number (SSN)
• Driver’s license or California identification number
• Proof of your income if you will be applying for a fee waiver.  This includes: Pay stubs, disability or unemployment statements, or any other proof of income.

Not Covered:

This workshop does not cover name changes for minor children, persons seeking to change their gender or those seeking a confidential name change
