As the nation recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic, many individuals and families are burdened with medical debt, whether as a direct result of COVID-19 infection or because of loss of income and inability to pay medical bills. In this class, learn your legal rights regarding medical debt, and receive tips and best practices for paying, settling, or otherwise addressing debt owed to medical providers.

Class covers:

• How to prioritize medical bills vs. other types of bills you owe
• What collectors of medical debt can and cannot do, including limits on credit reporting
• When and how to try to settle your medical debt
• Correcting medical billing errors, and protections against “surprise” medical bills
• Is bankruptcy a good option?

Car-related property damage has never been a simple legal issue. With the advent of COVID-19 and new rules regulating property damage, making an insurance claim has become even more complex. In this class, an experienced litigator will share information on how to make a claim, including how to navigate the new rules regulating the process.

• The nuts and bolts of the new property damage ‘claim game’
• How to make a claim and with whom
• Avoiding new property damage insurance pitfalls
• Properly and fully repairing your car
• Avoiding rental car traps
• Determining vehicle valuation in total loss scenarios
• Discovering if a car has diminished value and whether this impacts your claim

Unfortunately, many caregivers do not know how to obtain the legal guardianship necessary to adequately provide for children in their care so they can make decisions about their education, medical needs and living arrangements.  If a legal guardianship is not established, these children are at significant risk of becoming part of the foster care system because there may be no other way to ensure that their basic needs are met. 

Would you like to be part of the solution? This class will teach you how to help establish probate guardianships for minors whose parents can’t or won’t care for them and how to participate as a volunteer in a pro bono clinic helping complete the necessary court forms.
