LIVE ZOOM: Books Bans and the Right to Receive Information

Monday, March 17, 2025 | 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.

This class will be hosted on ZOOM

---ZOOM INFORMATION WILL BE EMAILED TO REGISTRANTS PRIOR TO CLASS START TIME---

Book challenges in public libraries and school libraries pose a significant threat to First Amendment rights as described in the United States Constitution, but they’re occurring more routinely. The American Library Association, which annually tracks such challenges and bans, notes a 65% increase in the number of challenged books between 2023 and 2024. This presentation will address recent book ban efforts nationwide. First Amendment attorneys will address what prompts such bans, what kind of books are being removed, and what lessons can be learned from lawsuits underway to challenge book bans.

Presented by: Greg Harold Greubel, Senior Attorney, and Hannah Abbott, Litigation Fellow - FIRE, the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression

Registration fee: FREE
