ON DEMAND: MCLE: Litigating Prisoners’ Rights: A Case Study

This virtual event, led by a panel of distinguished civil rights attorneys, will review and analyze the elements of Eighth and Fourteenth Amendment claims on behalf of prisoners, with a focus on a recent notable case involving the right to adequate inmate medical treatment, Aliitasi T. Alapati v. City and County of San Francisco.
After participating in this session, attendees will be better able to:
- Understand the impact and importance of the settlement in Aliitasi T. Alapati v. City and County of San Francisco
- Understand and apply principles of Eighth Amendment prisoner claims, including specifically the ban on cruel and unusual punishment and inadequate medical care claims
- Evaluate due process claims of prisoners under the Fourteenth Amendment
- Gain insight into why litigating claims under the Eighth and Fourteenth Amendments is so challenging
