Class recorded Otcober 27, 2022
Panelists discuss the First Amendment rights and ethical obligations of licensed attorneys who participate in lawful protests and other civic gatherings. Whether advocating for their clients or acting as private citizens, attorneys engage in a variety of First Amendment activities, including protest. So what are an attorney’s rights when they attend a protest? What are the professional and ethical considerations of an attorney when they do so? What duties does an attorney have as an observer? Can an attorney attend a protest in order to find potential clients? This class will explore these questions and more, bringing together the experience of activist attorneys and law enforcement.
