MCLE: Online Privacy and Security: New Rules You Need to Know
Wednesday, January 22, 2020: 12:15 p.m. – 1:15 p.m.
A major overhaul of California online privacy law takes effect January 1, 2020. AB 375, known as the California Consumer Protection Act (CCPA), gives new rights to consumers and places new requirements upon businesses. It will likely affect just about everyone in the state in some way – including attorneys who advise business clients, represent consumers, or do business online themselves.
Class covers:
- How the CCPA protects "personal identifying information"
- The CCPA's new requirements for how businesses respond to data breaches
- Consumers' "right to be forgotten": deletion of personal information on request
- New disclosure and opt-in requirements affecting online businesses
- Enforcement provisions of the new law, including a private cause of action
