By making use of pre-court intervention, defense counsel can successfully persuade prosecutors to drop criminal charges against a client completely, or reduce them in severity, before a case proceeds to court with formal charges at arraignment. Both new and seasoned criminal attorneys will benefit from learning about this vital, but often overlooked, form of defense advocacy.

He is a licensed attorney in Florida and Israel, has served as a Judge Pro Tem in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and has worked in a variety of other legal and business leadership roles over the years, including as an elected Miami-Dade County, Florida Commissioner for 14 years, a registered political lobbyist for six years, an executive coach, an insurance broker, and as a licensed investment banker. Barry is also an actor, and has been a SAG-AFTRA member since 1985. He is fluent in Hebrew and speaks some Spanish.

Judge Mark A. Juhas sits in a general family law assignment on the Los Angeles Superior Court and has done so since November 2002. He is the chair of the California Commission on Access to Justice, and is a member of several committees for the Los Angeles Superior Court including former chair of the Access and Fairness committee. For the Judicial Council he is currently on the CJER Governing Committee and co-chairs the Family and Juvenile Advisory Committee. He regularly teaches for, among others, the Los Angeles Superior Court's education program, CJER, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and Southwestern Law School.

She's worked at a variety of law firms ranging from mid-size litigation boutiques to large firms, and is licensed to practice law in three states. She has defended corporations and employers in complex class action and wage and hour disputes, as well as individual employment matters ranging from sexual harassment to wrongful termination. Nicole is the CEO and co-founder of Trellis Research, a legal analytics platform that uses AI and machine learning to provide state trial court litigators with strategic legal intelligence and judicial analytics.

Michael Swarz is Director of Marketing at Trellis Research, a legal analytics platform that uses AI and machine learning to provide state trial court litigators with strategic legal intelligence and judicial analytics. He has published articles on the topics of electronic discovery, information governance, digital evidence, and legal technology. He is also a frequent speaker, having presented on legal tech and e-discovery before legal, IT, records, and compliance audiences. Charlie Gillig is Vice-President of Operations and Legal Technology at Neighborhood Legal Services of LA County (NLSLA) and an adjunct professor at Loyola Law School of Los Angeles, where he established and teaches the “Artificial Intelligence and Access to Justice Practicum.” Charlie previously supervised NLSLA’s Health Consumer Center. Prior to NLSLA, Charlie founded a technology company to prevent predatory practices against consumers in the remittance industry, and was a Skadden Fellow at the immigration legal services non-profit Casa Cornelia Law Center. He is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center.
