QuickLook: Self-Help and Litigation Resources on the CA Courts Website (Pomona)

LA Law Library legal research specialists teach free, monthly 45-minute overviews of legal information search tools and techniques as part of regular “office hour” visits.*

This class introduces tools and resources available on the California Courts official website www.courts.ca.gov.

Class covers:

  • How to find forms, jury instructions, and Appellate Court case information
  • Free resources for going to court without an attorney
  • “Hidden Gems” and other hard to find resources
  • Presented in partnership with Norwalk Public Library, a public library of the County of Los Angeles Public Library system.

*A more extensive class, which may include hands-on practice and sample exercises, is taught at the Main branch of LA Law Library in downtown Los Angeles.

Family Law Divorce Orientation Workshop (Torrance)

If you are a litigant who requires self-help services in a divorce proceeding, you may call 213-830-0845 to seek assistance from the Self Help Resource Center at the Los Angeles Superior Court and referrals for additional self-help services. Regular call-in hours are 8am – 4:30pm, Mon-Fri. You can also get legal advice on many common questions by requesting a telephonic consultation with a lawyer in LA Law Library's Lawyers in the Library. For assistance from the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (LAFLA) by phone, please call 1-800-399-4529 for access to services. Also by calling the Self Help Access center, please call 213-235-0060. Family Law Divorce Orientation Workshop (Torrance)

This workshop is for litigants who are representing themselves and who want to file a petition for dissolution of marriage (divorce), dissolution of domestic partnership or file for a legal separation. 

This workshop will provide:

  • Information on the divorce process and the steps to take in order for a divorce to be completed.
  • An understanding of the court process, basic legal terms in a dissolution proceeding and the court forms you will need to fill out.
  • The next steps you will need to take to get your dissolution (divorce) or legal separation finalized.

Children are not allowed in the workshop.

Location: Sign-Up takes place at LA Law Library, Torrance Branch, Torrance Courthouse, 825 Maple Avenue, Room 110, Torrance CA, 90503

Arrive by 7:30 a.m. the day of the workshop. No admittance after 9:00 a.m.

This workshop is offered on a first-come first-served basis; take a number from the board outside of the Law Library, Room 110. Once you have a number wait outside of the library.

Only the first 20 Petitioners may attend.
